Statement regarding VMRO-DPMNE
ONNED is a founding member of YEPP and has actively supported the organization’s work and in particular its expansion in south-eastern Europe region. We believe and encourage the open and strong cooperation of centre-right youth organizations of Europe and we have proved so with out strong record in IYDU, DEMYC and EDS.
In fact, among the organizations we have actively supported in joining EDS, has been the youth of VMRO-DPMNE, from FYROM. Our mother party, Nea Demokratia, has been active in granting observer status to VMRO-DPMNE in EPP and has actually led the first EPP fact-finding mission to Skopje.
However, the conduct and actions of the youth’s organization of VMRO-DPMNE, forces us to strongly oppose its accession as a full member in YEPP at this moment.
The youth organization of VMRO-DPMNE has used the international organization’s framework as a forum for promoting their position on the dispute with Greece, despite our previous agreement to the opposite. In reality they have violated our good neighboring relations principle and the EPP’s, EU’s and UN’s clear decisions on the name issue.
Furthermore the recent provocations of the VMRO-DPMNE government, regarding the renaming of motorway β€Corridor Xβ€ condemned by a number of NGO’s in Skopje, indicates a continuation of irredentist policy against the principle of good neighboring relations and the stability in the region.
